Light therapy shines as potential Drug-Free knee pain relief
NCT ID NCT07057063
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special light (810 nm) can reduce knee pain and swelling in people with chronic knee pain and synovitis. About 80 adults aged 40-80 will receive either real light therapy or a sham treatment twice a week for five weeks. Researchers will measure pain, ultrasound images of the knee, and function to see if the light helps.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- 810 nm light therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a safe, non-invasive option to ease knee pain and inflammation without drugs or surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The sham group may also show improvement, making it hard to prove the light therapy's true effect.
