Simple head turn may make intubation safer for obese patients

NCT ID NCT07590739

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether rotating the head 45 degrees to the left improves the view of the vocal cords during video laryngoscopy in obese adults. Fifty patients with a BMI of 30 or higher will be observed. If the maneuver works, it could offer a simple way to reduce airway complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this simple head-turning technique could become a standard step to improve airway visualization in obese patients during anesthesia.

What could go wrong

This is a small observational study (50 patients) with no control group. Results may not apply to all obese patients or different equipment.
