Inhaler training study aims to cut COPD errors

NCT ID NCT02813200

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at how well people with COPD can learn to use three different inhaler devices: Diskus, Breezhaler, and Respimat. Twenty-four participants were taught to use each device and then checked for mistakes. The goal is to find better ways to train patients so they get the full benefit of their medication.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Seretide Diskus, Ultibro Breezhaler, Spiriva Respimat

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors teach patients how to use inhalers correctly, leading to better symptom control and fewer hospital visits.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study (24 people) that only looks at learning ability, not long-term health outcomes. Results may not apply to all COPD patients.
