Breathing battle: can simple exercises ease COPD symptoms?
NCT ID NCT07742033
First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares two breathing techniques—Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT) and Pursed-Lip Breathing (PLB)—to see which better improves lung function, reduces breathlessness, and enhances quality of life in people with moderate to severe COPD. Forty adults aged 40 to 55 will be randomly assigned to practice one of the techniques twice daily for 8 weeks, alongside standard care. Researchers will measure changes in lung function and symptom scores before and after the program.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT) and Pursed-Lip Breathing (PLB)
- What this could lead to
- If one technique proves superior, it could help doctors design more effective, personalized pulmonary rehabilitation programs for COPD patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all COPD patients. Breathing exercises may offer only modest relief and are not a cure.
