New device aims to improve spinal fusion for back pain sufferers
NCT ID NCT06462729
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new device called LDGraft, which contains a protein that helps bone grow, for people with degenerative disc disease needing spinal fusion. Forty adults aged 22 to 80 will be randomly assigned to receive either LDGraft or standard bone graft during surgery. The goal is to see if LDGraft is safe and helps bones fuse better than the usual treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LDGraft (a device containing rhBMP-2, a bone-growth protein)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a new option for spinal fusion that may improve bone healing and reduce the need for additional surgeries.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1/2) trial with only 40 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Risks include device-related side effects or no better outcome than the current standard.
