Laser light could boost gum disease treatment
NCT ID NCT06656325
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether a special laser device (FX-405) can improve the treatment of gum disease when used along with standard deep cleaning (scaling and root planing). About 70 adults with moderate to severe gum disease will receive eight 10-minute laser sessions over five months. The main goal is to see if the laser helps reduce gum damage more than cleaning alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Erchonia FX-405 laser device
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a painless, non-drug way to improve gum health when used with standard deep cleaning.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study with only 70 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The laser is an add-on, not a standalone cure, and gum disease often requires ongoing care.
