Laser zaps pain after gum graft – no pills needed?

NCT ID NCT07308912

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether a special laser (940-nm diode) applied right after gum graft surgery can reduce pain and help the wound heal faster. 36 healthy adults received either the laser plus a protective mouth stent or just the stent alone. Researchers measured pain, painkiller use, and wound healing over several days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

940-nm GaAlAs diode laser (low-level laser therapy)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, non-drug way to reduce pain and speed healing after gum graft surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 36 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The effect may be modest or not better than standard care.
