New laser combo could make toothache treatment less painful for kids
NCT ID NCT07290049
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 23, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether using a gentle laser along with a special dental cement can reduce pain after a pulpotomy, a procedure that saves a tooth with a severe nerve infection. About 46 children and young adults aged 9 to 14 with a painful lower molar will be randomly assigned to get either the cement alone or the cement plus laser. The main goal is to see if the laser helps lower pain after the procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Calcium silicate cement (EndoCem MTA) and Er,Cr:YSGG laser
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a less painful way to treat severe toothaches in children, possibly avoiding root canals.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small early study with only 46 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The laser might not reduce pain more than the cement alone.
