Robot arm aims to make kidney stone surgery safer and faster
NCT ID NCT07211555
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new robotic system called LARC that helps surgeons precisely guide a needle into the kidney during surgery for large kidney stones. The goal is to make the procedure safer and faster by reducing the need for a separate pre-surgery step. Up to 45 adults will be enrolled, and researchers will track success rates, complications, and recovery for one month after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LARC Robotic System (Micromate™ Version 3.0)
What this could lead to
If this works, it could make kidney stone surgery safer, faster, and more effective by helping surgeons directly access the kidney without needing a separate procedure.
What could go wrong
This is a small early feasibility study with only 45 people, and the robotic system is not yet FDA-approved for this use. It may not work as well as hoped or could have unexpected complications.
