Massive new registry aims to improve stroke prevention in AFib patients
NCT ID NCT02699957
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This registry is collecting data from 3,000 adults with atrial fibrillation who undergo a procedure to close off a part of the heart called the left atrial appendage. The goal is to track how well the procedure works to prevent strokes and to identify any complications. Hospitals submit patient information quarterly to help improve care and safety.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this registry could provide real-world data to improve guidelines and outcomes for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation patients.
What could go wrong
As an observational registry, it does not test a new treatment, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may be limited by data quality and hospital participation.
