New nerve block could ease pain after knee replacement
NCT ID NCT06920186
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a new nerve block (quadri-block) helps people recover better after total knee replacement compared to the usual method (adductor canal block plus surgical infiltration). One hundred adults with knee arthritis scheduled for knee replacement will be randomly assigned to one of the two pain-block approaches. The main goal is to see which group reports better recovery 24 hours after surgery, measured by a questionnaire that covers pain, comfort, independence, and emotional state.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- nerve block procedure (quadri-block or adductor canal block plus surgical infiltration)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a better way to manage pain after knee replacement, helping patients recover faster and more comfortably.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The new block may not be better than the current standard, and any nerve block carries risks like infection or nerve damage.
