Knee arthritis fall risk: muscle power may be key predictor

NCT ID NCT06611618

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether muscle power and control can predict falls better than muscle strength in people aged 65-80 with knee osteoarthritis. Fifty participants will undergo muscle tests, walking analysis, and MRI scans. The goal is to develop a fall-risk assessment tool for this vulnerable group.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better ways to identify who is at risk of falling, helping to prevent falls in older adults with knee osteoarthritis.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It aims to find predictors, not test a treatment.
