Can a simple pressure-sensing device beat foam rolling for knee arthritis pain?
NCT ID NCT07731737
First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether pressure biofeedback training—using a device that shows how hard you press—can reduce pain and improve muscle function better than bolster foam rolling in people with knee osteoarthritis. Forty-eight participants with moderate knee arthritis will do one of the two exercises three times a week for eight weeks. Researchers will measure pain, daily function, and quadriceps muscle activation at several points to see which approach works best.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- pressure biofeedback training and bolster foam roll training
- What this could lead to
- If one method proves better, it could offer a more effective non-drug option for managing knee osteoarthritis symptoms.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 48 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefits of either training method may be modest.
