Hormone injection reveals how long COVID affects the brain
NCT ID NCT07224490
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study gives a single dose of kisspeptin, a natural hormone, to 40 people with and without Long COVID. Researchers will take frequent blood samples to measure how the brain's reproductive hormone system responds. The goal is to understand if Long COVID disrupts this system, which could lead to better insights into related health issues.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Kisspeptin (a natural hormone given as a single injection)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help explain how Long COVID affects the brain's reproductive hormone system, pointing toward future treatments for related symptoms.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It is designed to measure hormone responses, not to test a treatment, so direct benefits are unlikely.
