Can a simple tape ease carpal tunnel pain?
NCT ID NCT07741708
First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether adding kinesio taping to a standard exercise program helps people with carpal tunnel syndrome more than exercise alone. Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, causing pain, numbness, and weakness. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either taping plus nerve and tendon gliding exercises, or the exercises alone, for four weeks. Researchers will measure changes in nerve size, pain, and hand function to see if the tape provides extra benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Kinesio taping (a therapeutic tape applied to the wrist) combined with nerve and tendon gliding exercises
- What this could lead to
- If effective, adding kinesio taping to standard exercises could offer a non-invasive way to reduce pain and improve hand function in carpal tunnel syndrome.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, and results may not apply to everyone. The benefits of taping could be modest or no better than exercise alone.
