Can a simple tape ease carpal tunnel pain?
NCT ID NCT07742293
First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This trial tests whether adding kinesiotaping to standard exercise and night splinting can improve symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, a condition causing hand numbness, tingling, and pain. Adults with mild-to-moderate carpal tunnel syndrome will be randomly assigned to one of two taping techniques or to standard care alone. Over 12 weeks, researchers will measure changes in nerve size and shape using ultrasound, along with pain and function, to see if taping offers extra benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Kinesiotaping (I-Strip or Button Hole technique) added to standard exercise and night splint therapy
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this could point toward a non-surgical, low-cost way to reduce pain and numbness in carpal tunnel syndrome, potentially improving hand function without medication or surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefit of kinesiotaping over standard care is uncertain, and any improvement may be modest or short-lived.
