Can ancient herbs stop colon polyps from coming back?

NCT ID NCT07505056

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a traditional Chinese medicine herbal formula, Jianpi Lishi Jiedu Granules, can prevent colorectal adenomas (precancerous polyps) from returning after they are removed during a colonoscopy. About 376 adults who recently had such polyps removed will take either the herbal granules or a placebo for 3 months. Researchers will check polyp recurrence rates after one year using a follow-up colonoscopy.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Jianpi Lishi Jiedu Granules (a traditional Chinese medicine herbal formula)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a natural way to lower the chance of colorectal polyps coming back after surgery, reducing the need for repeat procedures.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with no results yet, and the herbal granules may not be more effective than placebo. The study is also limited to people with a specific traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis.
