Breathing therapy may improve lung function in ventilated kids
NCT ID NCT06836050
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study looked at whether a breathing treatment called Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV) can improve lung stiffness (compliance) in critically ill children who are on breathing machines. Researchers measured lung function before and after one IPV session in 30 children. The study did not test a new drug or device; it simply collected data from standard care to see if IPV helps lungs become more flexible.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV)
What this could lead to
If IPV is shown to improve lung compliance, it could support its use as a standard therapy to help children on ventilators breathe more easily.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed observational study (30 children) that only measured short-term effects. It does not test long-term outcomes or prove IPV works better than other methods.
