Zapping cancer during surgery: new rectal cancer trial underway

NCT ID NCT05877352

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether giving a single dose of radiation directly to the tumor area during surgery is feasible for people with advanced or recurrent rectal cancer. About 31 participants will be randomly assigned to receive standard surgery, surgery plus a standard radiation dose, or surgery plus a higher radiation dose. The goal is to see if this approach can be successfully delivered and studied further, not yet to prove it works better.
