Nasal ketamine spray could ease pain of stitches and abscess drains in the ER

NCT ID NCT06284473

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving a small dose of ketamine as a nasal spray, along with standard numbing medicine, can lower pain during minor procedures like stitching cuts or draining abscesses in the emergency department. About 108 adults and children (ages 7 to under 70) will take part. Half will get the ketamine spray and half will get a placebo spray, and both groups will also receive the usual local anesthetic. The goal is to see if the ketamine group reports less pain and discomfort.
