Shock therapy for needle pain: TENS device tested in prostate biopsy trial

NCT ID NCT07578324

First seen May 21, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a small, battery-powered device that sends mild electrical pulses through the skin (TENS) can reduce pain during a prostate biopsy. 140 men will be randomly assigned to receive either active TENS or a sham (inactive) device, in addition to standard local anaesthesia. Neither the patient, the doctor, nor the nurse will know which group the patient is in. The goal is to see if TENS makes the procedure more comfortable.
