Heart failure nasal spray trial pulled before it began

NCT ID NCT07375212

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study aimed to see if a single dose of bumetanide given as a nasal spray could quickly lower blood pressure in the lungs and reduce blood volume in people with heart failure. Participants would have had a heart monitor implanted. However, the trial was withdrawn before enrolling anyone, so no results are available.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bumetanide (intranasal)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a convenient, non-injectable way to manage fluid overload in heart failure patients at home.

What could go wrong

This trial was withdrawn before enrolling anyone, so no data exist. Even if run, it was a small pilot study with a single dose, so results would be very preliminary and may not lead to a practical treatment.
