New sedation method could get ICU patients off ventilators faster
NCT ID NCT07000526
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tests if giving sedation through inhaled gas (isoflurane) helps critically ill patients spend less time on breathing machines compared to standard IV sedation (propofol). About 620 adults in the ICU who need deep sedation will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The main goal is to see how many days patients are alive and off the ventilator within 28 days.
