Could a finger prick replace the needle for inflammation tests?

NCT ID NCT07435285

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether a simple finger-prick blood spot can measure inflammatory markers as accurately as a standard blood draw from a vein. Researchers will collect both types of samples from 50 adults before and after a planned stressor, like a vaccine, which temporarily raises inflammation. If successful, this could offer a less painful and more convenient way to monitor inflammation in research and healthcare.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If DBS works as well as standard blood draws, it could make inflammation testing easier and less invasive for patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early study (50 people) comparing two sampling methods, not testing a treatment. The results may not apply to all settings or conditions.
