First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a simple conversation aid and brief training for doctors to improve discussions about anesthesia options with patients who need hip fracture surgery. About 1,881 adults aged 50 and older at six U.S. hospitals will take part. The goal is to see if this approach increases shared decision-making and helps patients feel more involved in their care.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could improve how doctors and patients make decisions together about anesthesia for hip fracture surgery, leading to more patient-centered care.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage implementation study focused on communication, not a treatment. It may not change patient outcomes or be adopted widely.
