Microchip implanted in pancreatic tumors could personalize chemo choices
NCT ID NCT07254091
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests a tiny implantable device that delivers microdoses of several chemotherapy drugs directly into pancreatic tumors during surgery. The device is removed after four hours, and the surrounding tissue is analyzed to see which drugs worked best. Ten adults with pancreatic cancer who are already scheduled for surgery will take part. The main goal is to check safety, but researchers also hope to learn whether this approach can guide personalized treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
microdevice containing microdoses of chemotherapy drugs (doxorubicin, gemcitabine, paclitaxel, 5-fluorouracil, oxaliplatin, irinotecan)
What this could lead to
If successful, this device could help doctors quickly identify which chemotherapy drugs work best for each patient's pancreatic cancer, leading to more personalized treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a very early safety study with only 10 participants. The device is experimental and may not provide useful drug response data. There is a risk of complications from implantation and removal.
