Could blood filtering ease long COVID? new trial aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07316127

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

Some people with long COVID have harmful antibodies that may be attacking their own bodies, causing severe fatigue and other symptoms. This study tests a treatment called immunoadsorption, which filters the blood to remove those antibodies. About 70 participants will receive either the real treatment or a sham procedure, and researchers will track changes in fatigue and daily function over six months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Immunoadsorption (blood filtering device using tryptophan columns)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a treatment for long COVID patients whose symptoms are driven by autoimmune antibodies.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 70 participants. The treatment is invasive and may not work for all long COVID patients. Risks include side effects from blood filtering.
