Hit cancer early or wait? major trial tests timing of radiation for spread tumors
NCT ID NCT06563388
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether treating 1 to 10 metastatic tumors right away with precise radiation improves survival compared to waiting 3 months. It includes 800 adults with lung, colorectal, or prostate cancer that has spread to a few spots. Participants are randomly assigned to get radiation immediately or after a delay, while both groups receive standard care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR/SBRT)
What this could lead to
If immediate treatment improves survival or delays the need for hormone therapy, this could change standard care for patients with a few metastatic tumors.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial, and results may not apply to all patients. Delayed treatment might not worsen outcomes, and quality-of-life differences could be small.
