Mind over muscle: illusory movements may fight burn wasting
NCT ID NCT04467619
First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tested whether a therapy called 'illusory movements'—where patients imagine moving without actually moving—could help reduce muscle loss in people with severe burns covering 20% or more of their body. Researchers measured energy use, muscle breakdown, and other metabolic markers in 12 patients. The goal was to see if this gentle, non-invasive approach could support recovery when traditional rehab is too painful or limited.
