Blood test may predict death risk in ICU patients
NCT ID NCT07460141
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is observing 42 postoperative patients in the intensive care unit to see if levels of a protein called IL-6 and other inflammation scores can predict who will die or have serious complications. Researchers will measure these markers at ICU arrival and 24 hours later, then track outcomes like death, infections, and time on a breathing machine. The goal is to find simple tools to identify high-risk patients early.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better predict which postoperative ICU patients are at highest risk of death or complications, leading to earlier interventions.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study (42 people) that only looks at existing data, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all ICU patients.
