Smart patch could spot dangerous sugar drops after gastric bypass
NCT ID NCT07440706
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) can better detect low blood sugar episodes in people who had gastric bypass surgery and now have late dumping syndrome. Sixty participants will either use the iCan i3 CGM or standard fingerstick tests for 60 days. The goal is to see if the CGM catches more hypoglycemic events and improves quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- iCan i3 continuous glucose monitoring system (device)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this device could help post-bariatric patients catch dangerous low blood sugar episodes faster and more reliably than fingerstick tests.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device may not be more effective than standard monitoring.
