New hydrogel could prevent tendon ruptures after wrist surgery
NCT ID NCT04976335
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a special dissolvable hydrogel placed between the metal plate and tendons during wrist fracture repair. The goal is to see if it helps tendons move more smoothly and reduces the chance of tendon rupture. Fifty adults having wrist fracture surgery will be randomly assigned to receive the hydrogel or standard care, and their hand and wrist movement will be measured over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- bioresorbable hydrogel membrane (Versawrap)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could reduce tendon scarring and rupture after wrist fracture surgery, improving hand movement and recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The hydrogel is a new device and its long-term safety and effectiveness are not yet proven.
