First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study aims to find out how often men with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have HPV infection in their mouth and anal area. Researchers will collect swab samples from 384 men with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis and test for HPV and abnormal cell changes. The goal is to identify risk factors so that doctors can better monitor and prevent HPV-related complications in this group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help identify which men with IBD are at higher risk for HPV-related anal or oral problems, leading to better screening guidelines.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not test any new therapy, and the findings may not apply to all men with IBD.
