New hip implant put to the test: will it stay put?

NCT ID NCT04070989

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at a specific hip implant shell (the Pinnacle Acetabular Shell) used in total hip replacement. Researchers wanted to see how much the implant moved (migrated) over two years using a special X-ray technique called RSA. They also tracked how patients felt and functioned after surgery. The study included 100 people with severe hip arthritis or other hip problems needing a replacement.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Pinnacle Acetabular Shell (hip implant device)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help surgeons choose the best surgical approach for hip replacement to reduce implant loosening.

What could go wrong

This was a small, early study that was terminated, so results may be limited. It only measured implant movement, not long-term outcomes.
