Could 15-Minute workouts recharge aging muscle cells?
NCT ID NCT05934760
First seen Aug 17, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 17, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how aging affects the power plants (mitochondria) inside muscle cells, and whether a short home-based exercise program can improve their function. Healthy adults of different ages will be compared, and older participants will do either high-intensity interval training or resistance band exercises for four weeks. Researchers will measure mitochondrial activity before and after to see if exercise can reverse age-related declines.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and resistance-based training
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward simple home-based exercise routines that help preserve muscle strength and energy in older age.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small early-stage study, and results may not apply to everyone. Exercise programs can be challenging, and adherence may vary.
