A Pillow-Side herbal sachet: a natural sleep aid for menopause?
NCT ID NCT07757724
First seen Aug 11, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a traditional Chinese medicine aromatic sachet, placed beside the pillow each night, can improve sleep quality in women aged 45 to 59 experiencing poor sleep during the menopausal transition. One hundred twenty-two women in Macao will use either the herbal sachet or an identical-looking placebo sachet for nine weeks. Sleep quality is measured at the start and after 3, 6, and 9 weeks using a standard questionnaire. The study aims to see if this non-drug approach offers a helpful alternative for women who prefer to avoid hormone therapy or sleeping pills.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A traditional Chinese medicine aromatic sachet containing ten herbs (e.g., Albizia flower, lavender, rose, chrysanthemum) placed beside the pillow nightly for nine weeks.
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this could offer a drug-free, non-hormonal option to help midlife women sleep better during the menopausal transition.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is relatively small and uses a placebo for comparison; the herbal scent may not be fully masked, and results may not apply to all women. Individual responses to herbal remedies can vary.
