Ancient herbs take on obesity and joint pain: a new clinical trial
NCT ID NCT06859697
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether personalized herbal medicine can help obese adults with spinal or joint pain lose weight and reduce pain. Forty participants will receive either herbal treatment plus lifestyle guidance or lifestyle guidance alone. The study measures changes in BMI and body fat percentage over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
herbal medicine (complex extract of medicinal herbs prescribed by a Korean medicine doctor)
What this could lead to
If effective, this could offer a natural, drug-free option for managing obesity and related joint pain, potentially reducing the need for painkillers or surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Herbal medicines can vary in quality and may cause side effects or interact with other medications.
