Engineered immune cells take on sarcoma in early trial

NCT ID NCT00902044

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-phase trial tests whether specially engineered immune cells (HER2-specific CAR T cells) can safely treat advanced sarcoma that has not responded to standard treatments. Up to 36 participants will receive an infusion of their own modified T cells, with some also getting chemotherapy beforehand to help the cells work better. The main goal is to find a safe dose and see if the therapy can shrink tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

HER2-specific CAR T cells

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for advanced sarcoma that has not responded to standard therapies.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 1 trial with only 36 participants, so it is too small to prove effectiveness. The treatment may cause side effects or fail to shrink tumors.
