New study aims to stop bleeding in kidney stone surgery
NCT ID NCT07668817
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using a hemostatic agent (a substance that stops bleeding) during kidney stone surgery can reduce blood loss compared to standard care. About 92 adults with kidney stones will be randomly assigned to receive either a hemostatic agent or no agent during their procedure. The main goal is to see if hemoglobin levels (a measure of red blood cells) drop less after surgery with the agent.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Hemostatic agents (Floseal, Surgicel, Surgiflo) or balloon tamponade
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that using a hemostatic agent during kidney stone surgery reduces blood loss, potentially improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 92 participants. The results may not apply to all patients, and the agents could have side effects like allergic reactions or infection.
