Helmet masks vs. standard oxygen: which keeps patients off breathing tubes?

NCT ID NCT05089695

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study compares three ways to help people with severe low oxygen levels breathe better without needing a breathing tube: a helmet that pushes air in, a helmet that keeps airways open (CPAP), and high-flow oxygen through the nose. About 1,200 adults with acute respiratory failure will take part. The goal is to see which method reduces the need for a breathing tube and helps patients recover faster.
