First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a program to help people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) get their cholesterol checked and treated. Many RA patients are at higher risk for heart attacks and strokes but often miss out on proper screening. The program used peer coaches and educational materials to encourage cholesterol testing. 101 participants completed the study, and researchers measured how many got their lipids checked.

What this could lead to

If successful, this program could help more rheumatoid arthritis patients get their cholesterol checked and treated, potentially lowering their risk of heart attacks and strokes.

What could go wrong

This was a small, early-stage pilot study with only 101 participants. The intervention is behavioral, so results may vary widely and may not apply to all patients. It does not test a new drug or treatment.
