AI tool aims to take the guesswork out of heart failure emergency care
NCT ID NCT06065761
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a machine-learning tool built into electronic health records to help emergency doctors quickly assess risk in adults with acute heart failure. The tool predicts which patients are at high risk of complications and likely need hospital admission, and which low-risk patients can be safely sent home. Researchers will compare how often doctors' decisions match the tool's risk assessment, and track deaths and serious events. The goal is to improve personalized, real-time decision-making in busy emergency departments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
machine-learning risk prediction tool
What this could lead to
If successful, this tool could help emergency doctors make faster, more accurate decisions about whether heart failure patients need to be admitted or can be safely discharged.
What could go wrong
The tool is based on a computer model, which may not work perfectly for every patient. It is being tested in one healthcare system, so results may not apply everywhere.
