New MRI technique could reveal hidden oxygen shortages in heart failure patients
NCT ID NCT07485816
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study uses a special MRI technique that tracks oxygen levels in the heart and brain of people with heart failure. Participants practice breathing exercises before the scan to see how their organs respond to changes in oxygen. The goal is to find a link between low oxygen reserves and thinking problems, which are common in heart failure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
breathing training
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new imaging method to detect early oxygen reserve decline in heart failure patients, potentially helping prevent cognitive dysfunction.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with only 60 participants. The imaging technique is complex and not yet proven to improve patient outcomes.
