Camera showdown: which machine best sees heart failure damage?

NCT ID NCT02515812

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested two types of cameras—a newer CZT camera and a standard Anger camera—to see how well they measure heart nerve function in people with heart failure. Forty-five patients received a special tracer injection (I-123-MIBG) and were scanned with both cameras. The goal was to validate whether the newer camera gives equally reliable results, which could help doctors better assess heart failure severity.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose the best camera for evaluating heart failure patients, potentially improving risk assessment.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed imaging comparison study, not a treatment trial. It does not test any new therapy or directly improve patient outcomes.
