COPD and heart failure: a dangerous duo under the microscope
NCT ID NCT07375433
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how often heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) occurs in people with COPD and how it affects their health over time. Researchers will follow 200 adults aged 50–70 in Russia who are hospitalized with COPD. They will use heart and lung tests to check for hidden heart failure and track deaths, hospital readmissions, and major heart events. No new treatments are being tested—the goal is simply to learn more about the link between these two conditions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better identify and manage heart failure in people with COPD, potentially improving care.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, so it won't test any new treatment. Results may not apply to all COPD patients, and findings might not change current practice.
