Summary

This study will test whether a short health aid—a tool that corrects common misunderstandings about knee osteoarthritis—can help patients feel less worried and make clearer treatment choices. About 159 adults with knee osteoarthritis will be randomly assigned to review the health aid, a decision aid about treatment options, or receive usual care during a routine orthopedic visit. The main goal is to see if the health aid improves patients' understanding of their condition right after the appointment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Health aid (educational material addressing misconceptions)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to help patients better understand their knee osteoarthritis and make more informed treatment decisions.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study that measures understanding right after a clinic visit, not long-term health outcomes. The health aid may not change patients' decisions or symptoms.
