Stretching showdown: which technique loosens tight hamstrings best?
NCT ID NCT07153510
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study compares two stretching techniques—post-isometric relaxation and active static stretching—to see which improves hamstring flexibility more in healthy university students aged 18 to 25. Fifty-four participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods and stretch three times a week for four weeks. Flexibility is measured before and after using the Active Knee Extension test. The results may help physiotherapy students and clinicians choose the most effective stretching approach.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Post-Isometric Relaxation and Active Static Stretching
What this could lead to
If one method proves better, it could guide physiotherapy students and clinicians toward a more effective stretching technique for hamstring tightness.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial in healthy young adults, so results may not apply to older people or those with injuries. The difference between methods may be small.
