Gut bacteria linked to brain changes in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and MS

NCT ID NCT05934188

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This observational study looks at how gut bacteria relate to brain structure and function in healthy aging and in people with early Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or multiple sclerosis. Researchers will use brain scans, stool samples, blood tests, and cognitive assessments in 200 participants. The goal is to find early markers that could help detect or understand these diseases better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could identify early markers for neurodegenerative diseases, potentially leading to new ways to detect or monitor these conditions.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may find correlations but cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not lead to immediate clinical applications.
