Can we predict who will get dangerous side effects from a common brain cancer drug?

NCT ID NCT06546631

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at why some people with brain tumors (gliomas) develop low blood cell counts from the drug temozolomide, while others don't. Researchers will analyze genes, gut bacteria, and other factors in 55 patients to find clues. The goal is to help doctors predict and prevent this side effect in the future.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

temozolomide

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors predict which patients are at higher risk of severe blood side effects from temozolomide, allowing them to take steps to reduce that risk.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study (55 participants) that aims to identify predictors, not test a new treatment. It may not lead to immediate changes in care.
