Stitch or clip? small trial aims to cut bleeding risk after Weight-Loss surgery
NCT ID NCT07238309
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two common techniques—oversewing with stitches versus using surgical clips—to reinforce the staple line in gastric bypass surgery and reduce post-operative bleeding. Thirty adults undergoing laparoscopic one-anastomosis gastric bypass will be randomly assigned to one method. The main goal is to see which approach leads to fewer bleeding events within 30 days after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Oversewing and surgical ligation clips
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, it could show which technique better prevents bleeding after gastric bypass, improving patient safety and recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The methods are already in use, so no major new risks are expected.
